As book-filled echoes resounded through the classrooms on the early morning of September 15, the morning self-study program officially commenced for the 2026 intake students majoring in Computer Science and Technology of Hainan International College. Moving forward, all freshmen will participate in morning English reading sessions every Monday to Friday. This initiative serves as a key measure for the College to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, help freshmen adapt to university life at an early stage and develop sound learning habits. It also represents a vivid practice of coordinated efforts between teaching administration and student management to build synergy for talent cultivation.
During the preparation phase of the morning self-study program, the student affairs team of the College conducted in-depth ideological mobilization among all freshmen. Through themed class meetings and one-on-one conversations, counselors elaborated on the significance of morning self-study in consolidating academic foundations and fostering sound learning habits. The mobilization aims to guide students to recognize the value of morning reading ideologically and adhere to it persistently in practice, transforming their passive participation into active initiative.
The smooth implementation of the morning self-study program embodies the consensus between the college and students’ families. At the freshmen parents’ meeting, the college leadership fully communicated the arrangements of the morning self-study program with parents and received unanimous recognition and support. The program serves as a vital approach to strengthen the academic atmosphere for freshmen and a beneficial attempt of the college to advance home-school collaborative education.
In terms of teaching content, the college’s teaching administration department, together with Chinese and foreign teachers of the Academic English teaching team, has conducted in-depth discussions and carefully formulated the morning reading plan. The reading materials are selected from the speaking and reading sections of academic English textbooks. The readings for the first week focus on artificial intelligence, critical thinking cultivation, technological innovation and reform and other related topics. Closely aligned with the characteristics of the Computer Science and Technology major and deeply integrated into the academic English curriculum system, the materials help foster students’ awareness of the coordinated development of professional proficiency and language competence from the very beginning of their university studies.
Adopting a progressive training model featuring “slow-speed demonstration, normal-speed repetition and collective reading”, the daily morning reading sessions are organized by teachers on duty in rotation. This phased arrangement enables students to steadily improve their pronunciation, intonation and listening and speaking abilities, laying a solid linguistic foundation for their subsequent academic English learning and further study at overseas partner universities.
Morning hours herald the best of the day. The College has incorporated morning self-study into the collaborative mechanism of teaching and student administration. Taking such morning sessions as an effective carrier, the College strives to foster a sound academic atmosphere. Meanwhile, the College maintains close communication with parents and provides timely updates on students’ academic performance and personal development. It also analyzes and addresses learning difficulties reported by parents, so as to realize joint efforts and coordinated education between families and the College.
