On the afternoon of April 29, Liu Zhiming, the dean of Hainan International College andAulinCollege of Northeast Forestry University, and Ma Rui, the vice dean, led a team of four to conduct a research visit to Sanya Yalong Bay Science and Technology City. The visit focused on three core topics: "Joint construction of research and study Valley research platform", "establishment of postgraduate training system" and "innovation of management model". They held a discussion with the administration of Yalong Bay Science and Technology City on the recruitment and training of special postgraduate students in Hainan, the sharing of scientific research resources, and the cross-university collaboration mechanism, aiming to draw on the experience of Yalong Bay's "five-in-one integration" and promote the in-depth connection between the construction of the postgraduate training platform ofNortheast Forestry UniversityHainan International College andAulinCollege and the strategy of the free trade port.
Focus on the management model and operation mechanism.At the symposium, Zhang Qingshuo, director of the Education Cooperation Promotion Department of the Science and Technology City, systematically introduced the "five-in-one integration" operation model of jointly building equipment and facilities, sharing scientific research platforms, jointly researching major projects, jointly cultivating postgraduate students, and jointly discussing management. Through the "Laboratory Alliance", resources from 13 universities will be integrated to support 47 joint projects in 2024, and the equipment utilization rate will increase by 70%. For instance, the molecular breeding instrument of China Agricultural University was opened to Nanjing Agricultural University, which led to breakthroughs in rice disease resistance research.
Zhang added: "To promote cross-university collaboration, the Science City has set up a 'Shared Course Fund', and 69 cross-university courses have been offered in 2024, with more than 2,000 students enrolled. At the same time, the "0.5+3" flexible academic system has been implemented. On top of the existing subsidies from the state, the science and Technology City offers subsidies of 800 yuan and 1,200 yuan respectively to master's and doctoral students who spend 15 days in Hainan each month, and the credits of cross-university courses are mutually recognized.
President Liu Zhiming proposed cooperation directions in light of the needs ofNortheast Forestry University: "The Lingshui Experimental Zone plans to build a 'tropical rainforest ecological monitoring station' and improve the ecological research chain. However, the efficiency of cross-campus project matching still needs to be improved. Hopefully, by drawing on the flexible academic system and course sharing mechanism of the Science and Technology City, Yazhou and Lingshui Experimental Zone will interact in offering general education courses, specialized courses and characteristic courses, promote the sharing of online and offline courses, and the instrument sample testing of the scientific research platform, and jointly improve the quality and level of postgraduate education." The head of the science and technology City's research department responded: "The two sides can deepen cooperation in the fields of forest floor economy and three-dimensional planting, and explore the path of transforming scientific research achievements. After the tropical tree germplasm data ofNortheast Forestry Universityare connected to the Yalong Bay Resource Bank, it will provide important support for interdisciplinary research."
The Study and Research Valley visited the research platform and supporting facilities.Accompanied by Zhou Xiaoya, director of the Education Cooperation Promotion Department of the Science and Technology City Administration, the delegation fromNortheast Forestry UniversityOcean College visited the Yalong Bay Study and Research Valley. Wang Weizhong from the Science and Technology Research and Development Department of the Science and Technology City introduced that researchers in the laboratory have optimized tropical crop samples through molecular breeding technology. He also introduced the equipment sharing mechanism to President Liu: "We have built 33 provincial and ministerial-level platforms and 6 national laboratories, covering the seed industry and deep-sea technology fields of South China. In 2024, the number of students recruited for the Hainan Special Program will reach 1,809, including 476 doctoral students, forming a closed-loop training chain of "laboratory - university - enterprise".
Subsequently,Northeast Forestry UniversityHaiyuan visited the laboratory of China Agricultural University Sanya Research Institute to inspect equipment such as high-throughput gene sequencers and intelligent greenhouse control systems on the spot. "The management model of the germplasm resource bank of China Agricultural University is worth learning from, and in the future,Northeast Forestry UniversityUniversity can incorporate tropical tree germplasm data into the sharing system," said Ma Rui, vice president ofNortheast Forestry University.
Experience the shared facilities.In shared gyms, auditoriums and libraries,Northeast Forestry Universityrepresents experience facility usage. The gym is equipped with smart fitness devices and a 24/7 self-service reservation system. The library has achieved electronic resource intercommunication with 13 universities. The intensive facility management model has effectively reduced the cost of running the school.
