On the morning of February 24th, a delegation led by Professor Sally Wheeler, the president of Birkbeck University of London, visited Hainan International University to inspect the Lingshui Li 'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Pilot Zone"). President Song Wenlong held a discussion with the visitors in Room 211 of the Public teaching building of the experimental zone, accompanied by relevant officials from Hainan International College of the university.
Song Wenlong gave a warm welcome to President Sally Wheeler and her delegation for their visit to NEFU Hainan International College and introduced the Sino-foreign cooperative education of NEFU in the experimental zone. He said the pilot zone, jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Hainan Province, is dedicated to introducing high-quality educational resources from home and abroad and creating a new benchmark for China's education opening up to the outside world. NEFU officially moved into the pilot zone in May 2024. This year, it will continue to deepen its international and open education, expand new dimensions of high-level international cooperation, and look forward to further cooperation with Birbeck College, University of London.
Sally Wheeler said she was glad to visit the Hainan International College of Northeast Forestry University for research and to discuss the possibility of project cooperation. She gave an overview of Birbeck College, University of London. She noted that Birbeck College is a research-oriented academic institution that has produced four Nobel laureates among its staff and enjoys an outstanding international reputation in the humanities and social sciences, and looks forward to cooperation with relevant majors of NEFU and the establishment of overseas study centers.
The two sides had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the establishment of Sino-foreign cooperative education programs and overseas study centers, clarified the cooperation goals and tasks for 2025, and laid the foundation for deepening high-quality cooperative education.
After the meeting, Sally Wheeler and her team visited public facilities such as the office area of Hainan International College, the library of the experimental zone and the stadium. During the on-site visit to the experimental zone, Sally Wheeler was impressed by its excellent educational environment, advanced facilities, the site selection and building design of the NEFU Exclusive Building. She made it clear that Birbeck College will fully support the application for the NEFU cooperative education program and hopes that the two schools will carry out more in-depth and long-term cooperation in areas such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, joint postgraduate training, and scientific research cooperation in the future.
