How to coordinate and do well in the two major articles of "bringing in" and "going out"? How to continuously enhance the international influence of China's education, build an open, inclusive and diverse high-end exchange platform, and constantly promote the development of China's education opening-up? On January 18th, the first Coconut Grove International Education Forum was launched in the Hainan Lingshui International Education Innovation Experimental Zone.
Zou Wentao, member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Experimental Zone Administration Bureau, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Science and Education Development Group, Zhai Xuefeng, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of the school, and Chen Wenbin, former member of the Party Committee and Vice President of the school, attended the forum's opening ceremony. More than 130 people, including responsible persons from relevant departments and colleges of the school, representatives of alumni from all over the country, representatives of retired teachers in Hainan, and alumni of the Hainan Alumni Association, participated in the event.
Liu Zhiming, the president of Hainan International College, delivered a welcome speech, and Zheng Yanghui, the president of the Hainan Alumni Association, delivered a speech on behalf of all the alumni in Hainan. The leaders attending the forum and the representatives of the guests of the first Coconut Grove International Education Forum jointly launched the Coconut Grove International Education Forum.
The forum was jointly hosted by Northeast Forestry University and the Hainan Lingao International Education Innovation Experimental Zone, and was organized by the Northeast Forestry University Hainan International College. The forum adheres to the concept of "mutual communication, mutual learning and mutual integration, joint construction, resonance and sharing", focusing on key areas such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, international joint research, Sino-foreign cultural exchange, and international student education. It aims to achieve theoretical and policy communication, ideological and cultural exchange, integration of academic concepts, joint construction of cooperation models, resonance of industry-education collaboration, and sharing of forum outcomes through the exchange mode of "keynote speeches, group discussions, and centralized reports". The forum mainly invited representatives from different levels such as government, universities, enterprises and society to give keynote speeches.
At the first forum, alumni such as Chen Yunping, the general manager of Hainan Huapeng Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the Forestry Machinery major of the class of 1989 at our university, Cheng Zhiguang, an associate researcher at the School of Management of Zhejiang University of Technology and an alumnus of the Forestry major of the class of 1995 at our university, Ma Xuefeng, the director of Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and an alumnus of the Wildlife Conservation major of the class of 1999 at our university, Gong Wenfeng, a professor at the College of Forestry of Hainan University and an alumnus of the Forestry major of the class of 2001 (Master's degree) at our university, and Guan Yonghe, the general manager of Hefei Higet An Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the Materials major of the class of 2003 at our university, gave speeches on the theme of "The Realistic Demand of International Higher Education under the Background of Free Trade Port Construction", offering suggestions for the development of international education in Hainan based on their respective positions.
Jin Xiaoxiao, the head of the Education and Teaching Department of the Experimental Zone Administration, said that the forum provided new ideas for the further development of international education in Hainan and gathered the joint force to promote high-level international cooperation in education.
Zou Wentao, on behalf of the Administration of the Experimental Zone, congratulated the launch of the forum and affirmed the achievements made by Northeast Forestry University University in efficiently promoting the construction of the Hainan International College since its entry into the Experimental Zone. He stated that Northeast Forestry University University is the only university in the Experimental Zone that has the advantage of ecology. It should precisely align with the construction goal of "National Ecological Civilization Experimental Zone" in the "Three Zones and One Center" strategic positioning given to Hainan by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It should focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, accelerate the advancement of foreign cooperative education projects, and strive to continuously exert efforts in the construction of shared teaching and research rooms, landscape planning of the Experimental Zone, and the cultivation of ecological talents, so as to contribute positive forces to the development of the Experimental Zone and the construction of the Free Trade Port.
Zhai Xuefeng expressed his gratitude to the Administration Bureau of the Experimental Zone for its concern and support for the development and construction of Northeast Forestry University. He also put forward three suggestions for holding a successful Coconut Grove International Education Forum. First, it is necessary to adhere to inclusiveness and create a forum with a "high perspective". Second, it is necessary to broaden the vision and create a forum of "high standards". Third, it is necessary to highlight the advantages and create a "distinctive" forum. He stated that Hainan International College should take the establishment of this forum as an opportunity, take root in the fertile land of Lingwater, bravely undertake the glorious mission of serving the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the ecological and green development of Hainan, and strive to become a brand-new card of the education circle in Hainan and even the whole country.
The one-year anniversary celebration of the Hainan Alumni Association and the 2024 New Year's gathering were held concurrently. Zheng Yanghui, the president of the Hainan Alumni Association and an alumnus of the Forestry Department of the class of 1992, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the Hainan Alumni Association. Qiu Xiao, the president of the Greater Bay Area Alumni Federation and the Shenzhen Alumni Association, and an alumnus of the College of Liberal Arts and Law of the class of 1988, Chen Weihong, a representative of the Hainan Alumni Association of Harbin Institute of Technology and the deputy director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Lingshui County, and Su Wentao, a representative of the Hainan Alumni Association of Harbin University of Science and Technology, successively delivered speeches, extending their best wishes to the first birthday of the Hainan Alumni Association of Northeast Forestry University. Gu Chenrui, a doctoral graduate of 2024, spoke as a representative of new alumni in Hainan. Li Sunlai, the secretary-general of the Hainan Alumni Association, presented a one-year work report to the conference.
Zhai Xuefeng highly affirmed the work of the Hainan Alumni Association over the past year and encouraged it to continue adhering to the principle of "serving alumni and giving back to the alma mater", promoting the common progress of alumni affairs and the development of the university.
At the annual meeting, the Hainan Alumni Association presented the first-anniversary outstanding member award, outstanding director award and outstanding contribution award to the members who made outstanding contributions. Professor Liu Guocheng, the former dean of the School of Economics and Management, on behalf of the retired teachers in Hainan, expressed gratitude to the university and the Hainan Alumni Association for their care. Chen Wenbin, on behalf of the retired teachers in Hainan, presented a banner to the Hainan Alumni Association. The retired faculty members attending the meeting also sang "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China" together.
After the annual meeting, the leaders and alumni present planted 45 coconut saplings together in the planned plot of Northeast Forestry University Exclusive Building in the experimental zone, expressing the good wishes of the 45 alumni associations across the country for the successful holding of the Coconut Grove International Education Forum and the establishment of the Hainan International College.
