On September 3, 2025, Professor Joanne Leal, Vice President of Birkbeck, University of London, led a delegation for a return visit to Hainan International College, Northeast Forestry University, situated in the Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. With the full support and coordination of the Pilot Zone Administration Bureau, Vice President Leal conducted a detailed inspection of core campus facilities, including the comprehensive sports center, public teaching buildings and library. She highly affirmed the zone’s internationalized and intelligent teaching environment and expressed sincere expectations for future bilateral cooperation.
This visit further consolidated the consensus previously reached between Birkbeck, University of London and Northeast Forestry University, boosting confidence and vision for the upcoming joint undergraduate training program in Information and Computational Science. Capitalizing on the unique policy and platform advantages of the Lingshui International Education Innovation Pilot Zone, the three parties will jointly accelerate the implementation of the high-level Sino-UK cooperative education program.
As a prestigious British university with a history of over 200 years, Birkbeck, University of London is renowned for its open educational philosophy and high-quality education system. Vice President Leal expressed the institution’s willingness to contribute its high-quality teaching resources in computer and data science to the cooperative program, and to explore a new international cooperation model featuring consistent talent training and resource sharing in collaboration with Northeast Forestry University.
The visit not only sustains the sound interactive momentum of educational cooperation between China and the UK, but also injects new vitality into the development of international education innovation under the background of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Amid profound changes in the global education landscape, the successive visits by delegations from Birkbeck, University of London further deepen bilateral cooperation and demonstrate the outstanding platform appeal and development potential of the Lingshui International Education Innovation Pilot Zone as a benchmark for international education innovation.
