On January 18, Professor Jennifer Howell, Vice President for Global Affairs, and Associate Professor Maggie Ying Jiang, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement, from the University of Western Australia, visited Hainan International College and held a symposium on furthering in-depth cooperation at the Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. Professor Li Mingze, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Northeast Forestry University, attended the symposium and delivered a speech.
Professor Li Mingze stated that the University attaches great importance to the construction and development of Hainan International College and will continue to provide all-round support for its growth. He expressed the hope that on the basis of existing cooperation, the two sides would further deepen pragmatic cooperation in talent cultivation, academic exchanges, scientific research and innovation, and jointly contribute to the development of Hainan International Education Innovation Island.
Following the visit of Professor Tim Sercombe, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Western Australia in November 2025, this visit constitutes another in-depth dialogue between the two universities in the field of Sino-foreign cooperative education, marking that bilateral cooperation has entered a new stage of pragmatic advancement. During the meeting, both sides conducted constructive discussions on expanding cooperation areas including joint curriculum development, faculty exchanges and collaborative scientific research. The two parties reached a high consensus on deepening practical Sino-foreign cooperative education and fostering high-level international talents.
The meeting was presided over by Professor Liu Zhiming, Dean of Hainan International College. Dean Liu introduced the overall development framework, strategic positioning, functional orientation, organizational structure, school-running plans and dedicated teaching facilities of Hainan International College, as well as the latest progress in the application for the joint establishment of the UWA College in collaboration with the University of Western Australia.
After the meeting, accompanied by officials from the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Department of the Pilot Zone Administration, the UWA delegation conducted an on-site inspection of the campus educational environment and infrastructure construction, and spoke highly of the high-standard and forward-looking planning and development of the pilot zone.
The symposium has laid a more solid foundation for future bilateral cooperation. Moving forward, Hainan International College will fully leverage the geographical and policy advantages of Hainan, further expand multi-dimensional cooperation with world-class universities, and contribute to China’s educational opening-up and the development of Hainan International Education Innovation Island.
