Assoc Prof Dr Hugh Leong currently serves as the Dean of The College of Academic Language (China), at
the Australian Education Management Group (AEMG). He was formerly Head of School, Design and Arts
at Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus). He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics
focusing on testing and assessment, a Masters of Education (International) and a Bachelors in Teaching
English as a Second Language (TESL). At Swinburne, he has held several academic roles as Course
Director, Associate Dean of Academic Operations, Deputy Head of School, and Director at the Centre of
Education Research at Swinburne University. To date Hugh has published a number of Scopus indexed
journal articles and is heavily involved in research and consultancy projects working with government
and international partners such as UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent
Development of Sarawak as well as the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing
of Sarawak and has generated over RM30mil of research and consultancy income for the university.
Hugh is also a certified Train the Trainer (TTT) by the Malaysian Human Resource Development Fund
(HRDF) and the International Academy of Business and Financial Management. He is an accomplished
master trainer, and has conducted numerous teacher training and professional development workshops throughout Asia.
